Join the Identity Theory Staff
Identity Theory is seeking talented volunteer
editors who love words and ideas and want to expand the online literary
conversation. We currently have a broad range of openings involving
literature, film, and music, as we are looking to reinvigorate the
publication on the heels of our recent hiatus.
Volunteering at Identity Theory provides a wonderful opportunity
to get hands-on, quality editorial experience in an intellectually
stimulating online environment. Words that describe the ideal volunteer:
passionate, friendly, web savvy, and very good at Scrabble.
The following volunteer editorial positions are currently available
(contact Matt Borondy at editor@identitytheory.com
to express your interest):
Literary Editor – As one of the leaders
of the site, our literary editor will help shape the vision of the
publication by overseeing all of our literary content, including
fiction, nonfiction, poetry, book reviews, and literary blogs. This
editor works with main editor as well as individual section editors
in order to acquire, edit, and promote original content to the website.
Time Requirement: approx. 5-10 hours per week.
Book Reviews Editor – The book reviews editor
solicits and edits reviews for publication in the book reviews section
of Identity Theory. Additionally, the reviews editor will post brief
reviews to a book blog. This position requires the ability to emphasize
positive aspects of books while maintaining a critical eye that
helps our readers reach a deeper understanding of the literary (and,
indeed, human) experience. Time Requirement: 5-7 hours per week.
Assistant Film Editor – The assistant film
editor will work with the film editor to select and edit film reviews
for publication. Additionally, this editor will help to maintain
our upcoming film blog and will assist in generating new features
(including interviews) and promoting our still-young film section.
Time Requirement: 5-7 hours per week.
Assistant Music Editor – The assistant music
editor will work with the music editor to solicit and edit music-related
features for publication. Ideally, this person will also be able
to write live show reviews as well as album reviews while also being
able to secure interviews with relevant bands. Time Requirement:
5-7 hours per week.
Others (Graphic Design, Web Development, PR, etc.)
– We have all sorts of needs and would love to hear from anyone
looking to develop their creative talents while working on our magazine.
Graphic designers, web developers, and PR types are especially coveted.
Email Matt Borondy at editor@identitytheory.com
to express your interest in helping to shape the future of our publication.
Please explain why you want to work with us and give some idea of
your qualifications (a resume, a few relevant links, a good recipe
for eggplant parmesan, or somesuchthing).
Note: Identity Theory is headquartered in Burlington, Vermont,
and a good portion of our staff is located in the New England area,
so a very slight preference will be given to people in
that approximate locale.
